Helen’s work is distinctive, sharp and whimsical. It offers profound insights about what it is to be an outsider in society, to think against the norm, or to have strange dreams and wishes.
Helen’s work is researched with curiosity and integrity and her stories are full of insight. For our major exhibition of South Australian colonial art in 2012 Helen developed exciting performance material incorporating historical objects and our exhibition display.
Gave me the confidence to just give it a go
Helen is the perfect person to engage and open up diverse communities and create something that will develop pride and a deeper understanding of both the participants’ place in their own history making and the way others view them. Her commitment to nurturing and mentoring the art of storytelling has an effect on all those she works with, making them feel that their stories are of value and can have an effect.
Helen is an engaging storyteller and singer. The children were absolutely captivatid by her performance.
The storytelling session was interesting, expressive and age appropriate. The children listened intently and responded appropriately. Very inspiring for both children and staff- the children are already telling their own stories and the staff will extend their hidden talents.
The demonstrations of use of story for different age groups – such as the use of simple props to use for toddlers to map out their day was great.
Helen made us realise about the importance of stories from our own experience.
