Helen Lawry is an Adelaide based storyteller, writer and teacher. She studied creative writing at Flinders University and Manchester Metropolitan University and storytelling at the International School of Storytelling in the UK.

Helen had just finished a teaching degree when she heard that there was such a thing as storytelling school. She saved up for three years and then went to England to attend school. She never regretted the decision.

Helen writes and performs her own work and writes on commission. Her work often explores memory, imagination and history.

Storytelling has lead to work for The Australian Centre for Social Innovation, The Art Gallery of South Australia, and the Ballarat Writers’ Festival.

Helen was a finalist in the prestigious Woodford Folk Festival Storytelling Prize, and a QLD Regional Arts Grant recipient. Her Every Suitcase Tells a Story Project was included in the 2013 Adelaide Film Festival Program.
